The Command Center Returns

Lyla loves to stand up (of course we hold her) so we decided to get out the Command Center for her to play in. She really likes it! Her favorite part is trying to get her mouth to the frog. If she leans over far enough she can reach it!

Lyla update

She is still as sweet as ever!

Every day when we pick her up from school they tell us that she is the happiest baby and smiles all day long. We are jealous that they get to see all her smiles during the day because she comes home so tired and goes to bed so early. I wish we could see her more during the week. At least we know they have fun with her!

Here a couple of pictures - one in a pretty pink dress and one after her bath. She is really long and loves to stand up. Of course we still have to hold her but her little legs are getting really strong. Before we know it she'll be scooting, crawling and walking!

Haircut

I finally got tired of brushing Steven's hair out of his eyes so tonight he got his first haircut! Our goal was to make it until his second birthday - we got pretty close. School pictures are on Friday so now he'll look his very best!
BEFORE

I am not licensed but I do a pretty good job, especially with this wiggly worm!

AFTER - no tears (mommy or Steven!)

He looks so old with short hair! My little boy is growing up!

Daddy's Juice

Is it wrong when your son sees his dad's glass of beer and calls it "daddy's juice"?

The Germ Factory

Daycare illness strikes the Clark family for the first time! Actually, we aren't sure which came first - Tommy's illness or Steven's but I do blame it on school wether it was Steven's school or Tommy's.

Steven has had a stuffy and runny nose for a few days but yesterday school called me at work because he had a fever of 101. I took him to the doc and it is just a virus but the poor little guy had a really hard time sleeping last night. He was up a few times and then at 4am he called out for me and wanted milk. He was burning up! His temp was about 103 so we gave him some tylenol and I rocked him for about 30 minutes until he went back to sleep.

I called the hospital nurse line at 4:45 and she told me not to bring him in unless his temperature got to 105. Yikes, he's boiling at that point. Poor little man.

Thank goodness for breastmilk, though, as Lyla is not showing any signs of trouble.

School

This week Lyla and Steven started school. Their first day was Monday and they both did pretty good. Steven started to cry when Tommy left him on Monday but he was eager to start playing when he dropped him off on Tuesday. I got to do the drop off and pick up today and again, Steven had a bit of separation anxiety. It just broke my heart to see his little bottom lip start to quiver when I told him bye bye. But his teacher, Ana, swooped him up and took him to look at the classroom fish. Distraction works wonders.

Lyla must really like school, too, because she is exhausted by the time she gets home. She has been going to sleep for the night around 6:30 or 7:00. Tonight she even slept through Steven's bedtime routine of reading a book and singing while we sat in the rocking chair immediately next to her crib. (If you've ever been in their room you know just how small and intimate it is, she had no where to escape!)
Today was also Tommy's first day at school. He started his student teaching assignment this morning with a teacher in service. It went well and I think he is anxious to really start actually teaching. He is sad to leave the kids but overall I think he is excited to be starting the next chapter!

Family Shot

A few nights ago we used the timer on the camera to get a family photo - definitely not star quality but we haven't gotten all of us in a shot in a long time.

Buzzzz

Steven got stung by a bee!

This morning I got a call at work from Tommy and he told me that Steven got stung while grabbing for a flower at the end of our street. It sounds like Steven cried really hard all the way back home but once he got inside (with the TV on) he calmed down. He also seemed to like the ice cube Tommy gave him, too.

Here is a picture of his swollen hand and normal hand. I can't believe he let me take this picture because it is so hard for us to get him to sit still!

The gunk on his right arm is a worn off temporary tatoo!

4 Month Appointment

Lyla had her four month appointment this week - fechnically one week early but we had to have her "school" medical forms filled out before she starts next week!

She weights 15 pounds and 2.5 ounces. I can't remember her length but I'll add it when I get the papers out of Tommy's car. He is terrible about remembering to bring things in the house!
