Steven's First Birthday

Steven's first birthday party was on Saturday, September 6. Cousin Ava and friends Mia, Miles and Logan came to play. Lots of aunties and uncles came over, too. We sang Happy Birthday, ate cake and then took a bath. It was all great fun!

June Update

This month was full of activity. Over Father's Day weekend we traveled to Florida for a wedding. Aunt Tracy came with so that Tommy and I could enjoy an evening out on the town. It almost didn't happen though because we missed the wedding bus because we were hemming Tommy's pants. Thank Goodness the bride is well prepared because she gave us a map to the marina!

While we were in Florida Steven got to swim in his first swimming pool and take his first dip in the ocean. He wasn't too sure of either one. At the pool he clung to his floaty and to mommy and daddy. At the ocean he cried when the wave came in to splash him. Mommy learned that getting sand off a wet bottom isn't too fun!

From Florida we traveled to Baltimore for a work conference. I was really happy that Tommy wanted to travel out for the week so that I wasn't away from them for so long. Steven is a pretty good traveler however he was spoiled by sleeping in our bed with us and he doesn't want to give that up!While in Baltimore Tommy took Steven on tours of all different kinds of ships and submarines, to a few pubs for a drink, to the national aquarium and as a family we took the water taxi to Ft. McHenry.

It sure is good to be home but we needed to scratch our travel itch!

What a month!

This month has been a flurry of new activites for Steven!

Earlier this month Tommy started taking to Steven to the Zoo on Thursday mornings for Toddling Troupe. It is basically a chance for Friends of the Zoo members to come out early, here a zoo keeper talk and then wander the zoo before it is open to the public. My boys enjoy going because they get a front row seat when the sea lions get their breakfast. Some day I might play hookie and go out there, too!

Steven and Tommy also go to the library on Wednesday mornings for story time. Steven likes to yell during the stories but he is learning to play nice with the other babies.

Steven has continued his crawling adventures but still hasn't figured out how to move his arms independently of one another, he still does the butterfly/belly flop crawl. He sure is fast, though. We have to keep our attention focused or he finds shoes to chew on, door stops to boing, or heavy furniture to run in to!

He is really starting to develop his personality and I think we are hitting the stage where he only wants mommy or daddy. We get to hear a lot of crying if we don't carry him around constantly! But I miss him a lot during the day so I don't mind obliging him when he asks!

Teeth!

Steven is cutting his two bottom front teeth! He isn't very happy about it but it is exciting to see the little pearly whites pushing through!

Rice Cereal

Grandma Nancy is here to visit and yesterday she took Steven to Babies R Us to buy him a high chair. When we got home we put the chair together and tried some brown rice cereal for the first time. Steven seemed to like it but he was probably more interested in playing with the spoon!

Long Nights

We've had a rough start to the new year in the sleep category. Steven seems to think that he'll sleep better when he is on a lap instead of in his bed. The last two nights have been better (only about 2 hours on a lap rather than all night) and we're hoping the sleep streches will lengthen!

January 14 was his 4 month appointment. He is doing fine according to the medical charts and we think so, too. He has started to roll over from his back to his belly but once he gets there he can't figure out how to get back. It seems like he forgets the process during the middle of his roll.

Next week Tommy starts his classroom visits and Steven will be going to the babysitter for two days. She is a co-workers wife who does in home care so we are pretty comfortable with this arrangement. We'll see how I feel about it after dropping him off next Wednesday!
